The Merivale Hand Clinic was established in 1985 by founder Sue Sewell to provide Canterbury with a dedicated hand therapy service.
As the original hand therapy service in the Christchurch community we are proud to continue providing a quality service to our patients. We have over 35 years in practice and a team of respected and experienced hand therapists.

We are all supported by an amazing administration team.
Our team of 12 hand therapists have undergraduate degrees in physiotherapy or occupational therapy and have all completed a post graduate qualification in hand and upper limb therapy. Together we have a total of over 150 years of experience in hand therapy! Our directors are Scott Thomson who has been with the clinic since 2007 and Abby Sewell who has arguably been part of the business her whole life.

We Value
We value continual professional development for all our therapists. We train new hand therapists with mentoring, assistance through post graduate study, and constant clinical support. Our registered hand therapists regularly attend conferences and training to keep their skills at the highest level. This ensures all of our team have the knowledge and experience required to provide expert assessment and treatment of the hand, wrist and elbow.
